Vivariums unfolds as a series of enclosed worlds. Each work functions as a small system—densely populated, restless, and caught in continuous motion. Creatures circulate, collide, adapt, or disappear. Nothing resolves. Everything repeats.
The exhibition borrows its logic from the vivarium: a space designed for observation, control, and care, yet always slightly artificial. Here, ecosystems are overstimulated and compressed. Suns sink too quickly, water rises without pause, eruptions follow no clear cause. The works hover between playfulness and unease, where ecological imbalance appears less as catastrophe and more as a constant, looping condition.
Physical collages and animated loops are exhibited side by side, creating a quiet tension between material presence and digital repetition. Fabric, paper, and found objects form the ground of each scene, while animation reintroduces time, friction, and instability. The loop becomes central—not as spectacle, but as structure—inviting prolonged looking and slow discovery. Vivariums does not offer solutions. It proposes attention. A way of watching systems at work, noticing how excess, adaptation, and fragility coexist within the same frame.
Artist Bio: Sunčana Brkulj is an animation filmmaker based in Zagreb, Croatia. Her practice moves between animated film and exhibition work, exploring mixed media, collage, and unconventional materials. Through small, symbolic worlds, her films reflect on the state of our own, using humor, magic, and quiet absurdity as narrative tools. Working across analogue and digital processes, she develops projects that allow materials, movement, and image-making to inform one another
